ABOUT MUSIC THERAPY
Music therapy is an evidence based modality that is based on the assumption that we are all innately musical. From the rhythm of our heartbeat to the melody of our laughter and crying, we are musical beings who instinctively express ourselves through sound. These connections with music can remain despite disability or illness, and are not dependent on a musical training or background. The music therapy process is dynamic and integrative, opening up unique avenues for communication, expression and awareness by engaging the healthy, creative parts of participants. Through active music making within a secure therapeutic relationship the music therapist helps children and adults address a wide range of emotional, physical, cognitive and developmental needs. Sessions are tailored to a client’s individual goals and may include music improvisation, guided visualization, song-writing, therapeutic drumming, or music assisted relaxation.
